The Formula

If you've been a follower of my blog for some time, you will know that the following formula is crucial to your online marketing success.

BA + EA = SA

This formula states you must build an engage an audience before you sell to an audience. The question becomes, how do we build this audience?

Building Raving Fan Customers

Russell broke down that to build raving fan customers, you need to build an audience. With that said, it can be a daunting task! 

To help you find your audience, here are 4 guiding questions I learned from Russell.

Question #1: Where is Your Field of Expertise?

According to Russell, you don't need any certifications or degrees behind your name to be an expert. All you need is results in a specific area. 

Russell identified three big markets that all expert business are based out of:

  • Health
  • Wealth
  • Relationships

Now you're probably thinking “Doc, those are broad categories!” YES, they are. But, you only need a small piece of the pie to be successful.

So, you want to find a subniche within one of these areas that you're an expert in. Let me give you an example. 

I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and have been able to lose weight and manage my blood sugars with low glycemic products. One of my primary businesses is marketing products and services exclusively to those who are diabetic.

Question #2: Would People Be Excited About My Opportunity?

It's so important to make sure they will be excited about what you want to share that will get them excited enough to take action. 

Let's revisit my diabetes example. I know that one of the biggest challenges diabetics have is sugar free foods taste HORRIBLE and they leave an aftertaste in the mouth. 

I have people who are searching and looking for yummy tasty food that doesn't leave them feeling deprived or having sugar crashes. Are people excited about learning about food products that can help them with their sugars?  YOU BET!

Question #3: Is My Audience Irrationally Passionate?

Are you passionate about your expertise? Do you eat, breathe, and talk about it all the time to the point where you drive people crazy? 

Now here's where Russell really gave me pause. Is your market just as passionate as you?

If you're having difficulty answering that last question, here are four test areas Russell looks for to see if his market is irrationally passionate.

  • Communities: Facebook Groups, YouTube Channels, Podcasts, Forums
  • Vocabulary: There is a common “language” to the market. For example, with diabetics we are talking “blood sugars”, “A1C scores”, “low carb diet”, etc.
  • Events: webinars, live events, local conferences
  • Experts: Are there established experts in your market who are selling products

Question #4: Is Your Audience WILLING and ABLE to Spend Money on Information?

Some people are willing, but don't have the money. On the other hand, there are those who have money, but don't want to SPEND. 

You market must be WILLING and ABLE to do BOTH.
