Who is Ray Higdon?

Ray Higdon is one of the most inspirational stories in the home business space. 

In 2008 Ray went from being a successful real estate investor to personal foreclosure when the market crashed. Things were so bad that his girlfriend (now wife) Jessica had to pay his utility bills.

He made the decision to go into network marketing full time and today now makes 8 figures per year. 

Although Ray is not active in network marketing, he is now teaching network marketers how to build a professional business without chasing friends and family. In fact, his company made the Inc. 5000 list.

Ray Higdon Voice Mail Follow Up Sequence

As I listened to Ray's interview with Brian, he shared one fundamental skill he mastered in the very beginning of his business when he was in personal foreclosure.

Ray needed to make cash flow fast and had two big challenges ahead of him. First, he didn't have the time to wait for organic traffic to come to his blog to get sales. Second, Ray didn't have the money to spend on any type of advertising to drive targeted traffic.

With creditors hounding him every hour, he made a decision to master one skill that would put cash into his pocket immediately. That was mastering the telephone.

He developed a simple 3 voice mail follow up strategy with his leads in order to close more sales with speed and ease. Once a prospect agrees to watch the online presentation, Ray immediately sets a time with them to follow up.

Ray never tells them to call him after they watch because they won't. Committing to a follow up time gives you posture and projects the intention that you're treating this as a business not a hobby.

Voice Mail #1

Ray calls at the agreed follow up time. If they do not answer, he leaves this message:

“Hey, we had an appointment at (agreed upon time), pretty tied up the rest of the day. But, give me a call, I'll do my best to answer.”

Notice how he keeps it short and sweet. He's also conveying that he is very busy. People like to do business with those who are busy.

Voice Mail #2

24 hours later, Ray leaves this follow up message if he doesn't hear back from them:

“Hey, (NAME), I left you a message yesterday, we were supposed to talk. I hope everything is okay. And by the way, if this is something you looked at, and it's just not a fit for you, let us know, so we stop wasting each other's time. Give me a call when you get a chance.”

Again, notice the posture in the script. He is showing respect for his prospect's time as well as his own.

Voice Mail #3

Ray waits 48 hours after he leaves voice mail #2 and leaves this final voice mail for the prospect.

“Hey, left you a couple of messages, I do hope that you're okay, but at this point, I'm going to assume it's not a fit for you, so I'm going to mark you off my list. I won't ever call you ever again, I wish you the very best life has to offer, and I got to run.”

It's this final voice mail that Ray gets the most call backs. Why?

Because people's attention spans are so short. They have every intention of calling you back, but get caught up in life.

This voice mail message has posture in it where it makes people WANT to respond back to you.

This strategy allowed Ray to generate over $1,000,000 in his network marketing company, $1,000,000 in affiliate programs, and $1,000,000 in his own products and coaching.
